Operation Purple® Teen Camp @ Spark the Wave
A Cooperative Camp
Spark the Wave is excited to announce that the National Military Family Association chose our organization to host an Operation Purple Teen Camp for the summer of 2010. Approximately 50 teens who are dealing with the challenge of being a military kid will be able to attend Operation Purple camp at Spark the Wave this summer at no cost to their families. Camps are free to participants thanks to support from the Sierra Club and the Sierra Club Foundation.
This specialized summer workshop will empower these teens to be strong community leaders, while helping them deal with and embrace the daily challenges of being a military kid. Through workshops on communication, leadership, group dynamics, service, and project planning, the Operation Purple campers will begin to see how much an impact they can have on their communities, large and small, while their parents are serving our nation.
With a focus on environmental education, these teens will have the opportunity to spend quality time learning and exploring outside. Different events and activities will be held outdoors each day so that the teens can enjoy the beauty of our environment as well learn how they can help preserve it. Operation Purple camp at Spark the Wave will be held July 18 to 23rd at Villanova University in Villanova, PA, a wonderful campus close to such Philadelphia sites as Valley Forge National Park.
Please contact Erica Rubin, Operation Purple Camp Director, with any questions or if you’re interested in attending this program at erica@sparkthewave.org
